Holiday Events

Wow! Peterson Companies outdid themselves, on our behalf. WGB was the recipient of all proceeds at both Friday's Fairfax Corner holiday season kick-off and on Saturday at Virginia Gateway's Holiday Fireworks spectacular.

Virginia Gateway's Holiday Fireworks Spectacular

Nearly $4,000 was donated to WGB after the weekend events! We are ecstatic and flattered by this great partnership that continues to grow. Thank you to our many board members and volunteers that attended one or both events. We were fully staffed to collect toys and communicate the mission about what Women Giving Back does.

Thanks to the Peterson Companies for making WGB their charity of choice!

TJX Foundation

We‘re so lucky to have Corporate partners like T.J.Maxx and the TJX Foundation ($5,000 grant for WGB -- which AFTER their tour, they increased to $10,000!). We couldn’t do what we do without you and the support of your stores, the incredible team of managers and their associates!

The mission of The TJX Foundation is: “To help families who need it most build a valuable future – a future where families’ and children’s critical basic needs are met and where they have access to the opportunities they need to succeed and thrive.”

The Big Give

Have you heard about The Big Give? An event coordinated one day a year, gathering families to volunteer and impact our local communities. 15-20 families gathered on Sunday, November 13th, making several stops throughout the day to create acts of service, make donations and to offer gifts. This year they had WGB as their service project which is their last stop of the day.

Saving the best for last! THANK YOU!

M&T Bank

On November 14th, M&T volunteers & WGB hosted 18 homeless women veterans being served by Easter Seals to help them find employment.  It was a wonderful event.  The bus was donated by RMA to pick them up at the VA center in DC and transport them to the WGB store.

Successful Sorts

McLean High School marketing students came to volunteer for our Friday evening store with their teacher Debbie Fargo. Their student organization is DECA Inc. which is an International Association of marketing students.

They were sorting, providing childcare and stocking the stores like pros. They truly enjoyed helping out. One of them told said it was an eye-opening experience. They want to come back with more of their friends and push for a toy drive at school, with an emphasis on gifts for teens.

FlexProfessionals, LLC, a Fairfax-based staffing company collected donations of business clothes and accessories which WGB was one of the recipients of. Sheila Murphy (Founder/Partner) on the left arranged drop off of two SUV loads. Extra bonus! They were already sorted and majority were on hangers. A donation perk! Thank you for everything!

GMU’s Kappa Phi Lambda Sorority Inc. chose WGB as their local philanthropy organization because of our mission. The photo is of their collection kiosk. They dropped off a car load of donation so far this month.

Spotlight on Volunteers
Brigitte Wazana

Brigitte Wazana has been a special volunteer at WGB for a couple of years. She often assists at special sorts in the middle of the week in addition to helping on store day. Many people know that we at WGB only use certain hangers. Rather than throw away the tubular and wire hangers Brigitte collects them and distributes them to needy shelters in the area.  She is meticulous in making certain that our hanger rods are impeccably sorted. More importantly she is willing to assist with any task and completes it with a smile.

We value Brigitte's opinion and have incorporated some of her ideas in our working plan.

Marianne Ford

Marianne Ford

Should you enter the warehouse or store at WGB and notice a woman with a swifter cleaning the place it is Marianne Ford quietly assisting behind the scene and ensuring that WGB is neat and orderly!

Marianne assists shoppers on store days and also is meticulous in assuring that only the hangers we use are  neatly placed on the hanger racks.  Marianne can't leave the building until she knows that everything is in great shape for the next group of shoppers or sorters.  Thanks for helping keep us organized Marianne!

Thank You!
