Cinco de Mayo

The annual Cinco de Mayo event will be held on May 4th from 5:30 to 9:30pm at the WGB Store in Sterling, VA.

The proceeds from this event provide direct support for the Women Giving Back program, helping us to clothe thousands of women and children in need each year.

President's Volunteer Service Award

President's Volunteer Service Award

Madelaine Dye, an 8th grader at J. Michael Lunsford Middle School in Loudoun County, Virginia has been honored for her exemplary volunteer service with a President’s Volunteer Service Award.

Madeleine loves to come to Women Giving Back and volunteers as much as possible. She is self-motivated and works extremely hard. The award, which recognizes Americans of all ages who have volunteered significant amounts of time to serve their communities and their country, was granted by the The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards on behalf of the President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation; which recognizes middle and high school students across America for outstanding volunteer service.

“Demonstrating civic responsibility through volunteerism is an important part of life,” said NASSP executive Director JoAnn Bartoletti. These honorees practice a lesson we hope all young people, as well as adults will emulate.”

Volunteer of the Month
Volunteer of the Month - Bill DuBois

Bill DuBois is our volunteer of the month. Bill retired from Lockheed Martin after 49 years as the Senior Manager of Property Management and has been volunteering with Women Giving Back since July 2016. Bill realized after retiring from a full-time job that he wanted to fill his free time by volunteering. Bill provides his professional skills and abilities in the form of organization as it relates to better utilization of limited space in the warehouse and makes many donation pickups on behalf of WGB.

Bill is an active member of the Vale United Methodist Church in Oakton, Virginia where he also volunteers with their Youth Group to feed the homeless of Washington DC each first Sunday of every month. In addition, Bill shepherds the White Dove Christmas gift cards program for McDowell County West Virginia the poorest County in the United States.

Bill’s says that his sister Diane who serves on the WGB Board and is the WGB Development Committee Co-Chair is his inspiration as she is also deeply committed in paying it forward by volunteering in many organizations that support those who are less fortunate. Bill is thankful that there are organizations like WGB who are making a difference to foster the love of giving and bring the support that our diverse community requires. Thank you Bill for all that you do at WGB and in the community!

Spring has sprung, and all over, people are opening up their windows to let the fresh, warm air in. Spring cleaning is a great time to get organized and donate some of your gently used clothes to WGB. We are still in need of boy’s clothing, sizes 2t to 4, women’s clothing sizes 0-2 and 16 and higher and women’s shoe sizes 6 and under and 9 and up.

This quarter we served 1,290 women and children with clothing, which is a 205% increase from the number of women we served at this time last year! If that increase of shoppers continues, we'll need even more clothing donations to make sure every woman and child can get the clothing they need.

We appreciate your support in whatever way you can contribute. Thanks to you, we're able to serve more and more. I look forward to seeing familiar and new faces at our 10th Anniversary Cinco de Mayo Fiesta on May 4th!

Many thanks,
Nicole Morris
