Boxes going to Jordan/Syrian Refugees

We welcomed NOVA Relief Center to WGB to fill a 16-ft. truck. Scott York, former chair of Loudoun Board of supervisors is on the board and picked it up with another board member. The clothing is going to the Syrian refuges who have crossed into Jordan. We wish everyone well.

Loudoun County Chamber of Commerce - Young Entrepreneurs Academy (YEA!)

The Loudoun County Chamber of Commerce's Young Entrepreneurs Academy (YEA!) is a 7-month program that transforms middle and high school students into real-life entrepreneurs and business owners. The students were asked to research local nonprofits in Loudoun to help this holiday season and they picked Women Giving Back! WGB was invited as a guest speaker last week and all the students brought donations to support WGB teens in need.

WGB welcomed the Global Center for Refugee Education and Science (GCRES) for a class field trip in December.

They found such great pieces to match their personalities and we were thrilled to help. Who doesn't love putting a smile on someone's face? As a class, they put together a thank you note that we had to share!

This is the first full year WGB was a part of the Loudoun Human Services Network (LHSN). LHSN had a great meeting to close out 2018. Loudoun's nonprofit leaders provided Inova Loudoun Hospital and the Loudoun County Health Department input into the Loudoun Community Health Status Assessment, and then we had some end-of-year fun with a gift exchange!

Santa’s Workshop Weekend

What a beautiful day! There were a lot of happy tears. We served 213 kids with 1,071 toys, bikes and gift cards. Two women who came all the way from DC whose case manager referred them for toys had no idea that they would be able to get clothing as well. One of them said, “You have no idea how much I needed clothing for myself.”

Client Spotlight

Christmas Comes Early

photo

As you can see this bike from WGB made this little boy very happy! His mom is a client of the Naomi Project, now Britepaths.

Nelson was diagnosed with cancer at 2 months of age, had chemo and his left eye removed. WGB and Britepaths have certainly helped in their difficult journey.

In December, WGB served over 519 homeless and/or under-served children with 2,295 toys, bikes and gift cards. We brought the magic and joy of the holidays with the help of donors like YOU!

Volunteers of the Month

Cristina Sindhu

photo

Cristina is one of our treasures at WGB! Her skills as a professional organizer are used endlessly by helping us with our warehouse and store. Not only does she find solutions for stuff (hence her business @Solutionsforstuff), but she also serves as a leader for all of our volunteers. There is not a week that goes by that we don't see her friendly face getting her WGB fix in!

Lisa McGrail

photo

Lisa is not only a driver, a sort leader, and a frequent volunteer of ours, but a member of our WGB family. Lisa is someone you can find in our warehouse all year round. She has driven all over to pick up donations, drop off clothing, and keep our services mobile. Volunteers flood our doors and Lisa helps guide new & seasoned helpers in our warehouse by giving tours, providing orientation, and keep our wheels turning. Thank you Lisa for your endless support and hands around WGB!

Successful Sorts

Thank you to the Great Falls Reston Soccer Club. Your big smiles and helping hands made a huge difference.

Miller & Smith

The Miller & Smith team was awesome. They brought donations and over $1,200 in toys, along with their enthusiasm.

In addition to everything accomplished in the children’s section, the group also:

  • Boxed, labeled and moved boxes of summer clothes.
  • Sorted donations and hung Winter clothes on racks.
  • Sorted shoes and added to bins.
  • Worked on Bags-to-Go.
  • Replenished hats/gloves in the store.

2018 was our best year yet, during which we experienced a 33% increase in client interactions! We have witnessed clients gain employment, further their education, defeat illnesses, secure housing and feel safe and hopeful for once in their life.

These women truly inspire me, and I know that you support WGB because they inspire you, as well. So on behalf of all the incredible women and families we serve, thank you. What a thrill to be on this journey together!

The Board and I are excited to see what 2019 has in store for our agency. Our word for 2019 will be EMPOWERMENT. This one word will direct us in all we do this year; through service, training and awareness. Women are the anchors of families and we help empower women, giving them renewed self-confidence. These women become role models for their children…AND their success truly has a lasting, positive effect on our communities.

This year, I am hoping we can make history again and create positive change — something we would never be able to do without our dedicated staff, board, volunteers, supporters, corporate partners and our strong network of referral partners. We hope that you come along with us on this journey through volunteerism and support.

To stay updated on what we are doing and what are clients are achieving, please visit our website regularly. We look forward to seeing you at the boutique or at one of our events very soon.

Wishing you a blessed year!

Nicole Morris,
Executive Director

photo

Big thanks to K2M, Inc. for your snack pack(s) donation. We appreciate your thinking of us and hope to partner with you again in the New Year!

photo

We are so thankful for our grantors, foundations and collective giving circles who have supported WGB's mission this year! The vitals funds received helped support our kids snack pack program, case manager open house, new volunteer management software and most importantly provided operation support so we can keep our doors open another year to continue to serve the most vulnerable women and children in out community.

We look forward to 2019 and its many successes!
