WGB Aims to Increase Impact

As many of you know, Women Giving Back became an independent 501c3 nonprofit organization in Spring 2015. This change has enabled us to dream big about the vision of our organization and how to best serve the women and children who need us most. Through our strategic planning, we have identified three short term goals:

  • Doubling our store size to enable us to serve 50% more people
  • Expanding our staff to meet client needs while we grow and develop a strong infrastructure
  • Increasing our volunteer base to secure more donations, support and manpower

For the last three months, we have been developing a fundraising strategy to raise $700,000 through private donations, corporate gifts and foundation grants to support these goals. Interviews with a dozen of our key stakeholders indicated strong for our goals, as well as a willingness to financially support the campaign.

We encourage you to visit our website to read more about our campaign plans and how you can get involved.

Please Save the Date for our virtual Campaign Launch Party: Oct. 28th, 7pm

Record numbers of shoppers came out to the September Store despite the rainy day! Shoppers were greeted by Inova and their bus of activities, as well as tents filled with backpacks and school supplies. There was also a tent filled with shoes and racks of dresses to help our teens dress for Homecoming.

This month we had two groups of volunteers that made such a difference with the large group of clients coming to the store on a rainy Saturday. NCL (Cherry Blossom and Orchard Chapters) pair mothers and daughters for a select charity and they really brought some dynamite girls! Two girls, “the Ellie’s” organized and managed the jewelry cart and helped so many other mothers and daughters find just the right piece! They started as volunteers and, through their own instincts, became instant young leaders!

Thank you also to the Dulles SHRM group, Junior League, Positive Sisterhood, Northern VA Chapter and all volunteers who worked so hard, braving rain and wind to help distribute school supplies, back packs, shoes and Homecoming dresses.

To the School Supply angels – thank you for replenishing when supplies were low. Overall, there was such a strong Spirit of Sisterhood all day with all the girls taking care of each other, whether we were mothers, daughters, volunteers, clients, or even the men that assisted us all morning. Thank you everyone!

Thank you Melissa Fox for all that you do for WGB! Melissa has done countless clothing drives, brought groups in for sorting and has taught her young daughters and friends to give back by involving them as well. Her spirit and generosity is infectious and we love having her volunteer with us. Melissa also works at N’Used that supports WGB’s efforts as well. Thanks for all you do Melissa!
