Our Incredible Year!

That’s our theme for 2016. We’ve had so many milestones and you just have to see what’s happened in October to get a glimpse. We’ve had volunteer sorts all month that helped manage the huge amount of donations we’ve had. We circulated Halloween costumes at the Store to delighted children. Delegate Jennifer Boysko hosted a luncheon at WGB for delegates, staffers and dignitaries to introduce them to us. It was a huge success.

Our Facebook page is on fire! Darvish Interiors installed a new non-carpet floor in the Van Metre Playroom. And we received a few grants on top of all that.

In November you will see the start of our 2016 Capital Campaign. Please consider helping us monetarily as we continue to expand and reach more women and children. In October, we increased the number we served by 40% over this time last year!

And lastly, remember we are collecting unwrapped toys for Santa’s Workshop in December. Thank you all for your dedication and hard work this month! We couldn’t do it without our volunteers.

Spotlight on Volunteers

Melissa Fox

Melissa Fox is a long-time volunteer at WGB. She found out about the organization five years ago through our warehouse manager, Cindy Dwyer. Cindy visited N’Used where Melissa works and created a partnership to donate unsold clothing. From that day, Melissa has relentlessly spread our mission and brought her many friends in as volunteers.

Most recently Melissa and her cohorts helped work through a mountain of donations and brought order back to the warehouse. N’Used even held an auction of a Louis Vuitton handbag with all the proceeds coming to WGB.

Melissa Fox

Melissa and her three daughters are constant volunteers. She even spearheaded several neighborhood drives and sorts. Her husband, Matt, is also a major sponsor through George Mason Mortgage. It’s very much a family affair and we couldn’t be more grateful!

Cindy Bartlam

Cindy Bartlam

One of our newest volunteers is Cindy Bartlam. She just started volunteering with us at the beginning of the month and has already been at sorts for over 28 hours! Like many of us, she found WGB and got hooked on the mission! She is a powerhouse volunteer and was instrumental (along with many others) for helping process through the huge mountain of donations we had cued up early this month. We hope that Cindy continues to provide her energy to WGB for a long time to come!
