June Store

WGB provided transportation to Friends of Guest House clients from two homes in Alexandria.  Great group of ladies that were so grateful to come and shop at the Saturday Store.

Friends of Guest House

NCL Orchard was our children's breakfast sponsor at the June store. They also set up a craft station upstairs for the older kids.

Cindy Dwyer attended the Giving Circle of Hope Member's Mingle at Wardrobe Rescue last Thursday along with Diane DuBois. They collected a $100 check.

WGB Volunteer Paola

Paola a sophomore at Paul VI High School has been recently coming to volunteer at WGB, using her bilingual skills to help client shop and provide childcare.

She saw how short of volunteers we were that she recruited her parents to come and help get the children's warehouse and store organized.

Snack Packs

In June, 100 snack packs were donated to WGB and were assembled by chapter members of the Lambda Beta Omega Chapter, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., board members of The Education and Charitable, and our local community of volunteers.

Incredible work! Thank you!

Stories from the Store

WGB has many success stories and Miki is certainly one of them! Miki and her newborn twins visited WGB in December, 2015. They fled a toxic D.C. environment; making their way to a Loudoun County homeless shelter.

Miki Success Story

Miki was linked to an INMED Partnerships for Children case manager who referred her to WGB. With a new wardrobe in hand, she landed a job as a Direct Support Professional to care for a gentleman with special needs. Miki found an apartment, received a minivan through Vehicle For Change and began a new life.

This AMAZING single mom has conquered homelessness and overcome addiction. She is living proof that women can face great odds and emerge as leaders. Miki was the guest speaker at InMed's Barn Blast fundraising event on June 4th. We applaud her; please do so as well!

Successful Sorts

Vienna Presbyterian Church Preteen Summer Mission Project
We had the pleasure of hosting these preteen volunteers today and the other half of their group is coming tomorrow.  They are part of Vienna Presbyterian Church’s  Summer Mission Project for Rising 4th-7th Grade.  They did a little bit of everything.  They even took a cute little dance break.

Long and Foster & Paul Davis Restoration
Lucky us! Last week we had two groups on the same day, helping us get the store back together right after the YFT store. Paul Davis Restoration and Long and Foster (Sterling & Ashburn Office).

Long and Foster team wrapped up a donation drive at their offices and brought two car loads of clothing.

This is the second time this year that Paul Davis' group scheduled a sort with us. It is great to have their continuous support.

School is out and the summer is heating up fast. We think more of the homeless during winter months because of the frigid temperatures, but the truth is homelessness and poverty do not take a summer break.

The summer months present a whole new set of challenges to those women and children we serve. With school being out, childcare costs increase for a low-income single working mom already struggling financially to make ends meet. A child goes without their free lunch they would normally get at school. With a tight family budget, food and shelter are at the top of the list and clothing is a luxury expense to those families living in poverty. That is why WGB’s work this summer is so important and we need your help.

The 2nd quarter we served 631 women and 832 children. That is a 53% increase from last year’s numbers. As we are partnering with more organizations who refer their clients to us, our needs for volunteers, clothing and monetary donations also increase. Our hope is that this summer you can give your time and donations as we continue to serve our communities together. It takes volunteers, donors, and supporters like you to help WGB affect lives.

Many thanks,
Nicole Morris

Thank you, so very much, for your donation of Aprons from our wish list. You are incredible ladies and wonderful examples to both our clients and the many volunteers of WGB.

Thank you to Let's Help Kids for working with your local schools to start collecting new costumes for our Halloween drive. You are forward thinking with all you do and remind us to always be looking for specific items so that when the time has come, we're ready to knock it out of the park for our shoppers kids.
