July Store

Young Mens Service League

Mom and son duos from the Young Men's Service League came to the July Store with food. We were able to hand out totes of nonperishable food to all of our shoppers. They also helped sort through donations in the warehouse.

City Hills Church came out in numbers to help on our Saturday store day.  The men helped in the warehouse and the ladies helped assist clients in the boutique.  Some members’ bilingual skills came in handy communicating with our shoppers.

GMU Student Transition Empowerment Program (STEP)

GMU STEP

GMU's Office of Diversity, Inclusion & Multicultural Education (ODIME) STEP Students came to volunteer at the warehouse for a full day of service. It was great learning about their program. The Student Transition Empowerment Program (STEP) is an initiative in the Diversity, Inclusion, and Multicultural Education office created to enhance the recruitment, engagement and retention of first generation college students accepted to George Mason University. Their mission is to empower students through academic skills, access to resources, community building, self-discovery, and the global citizenship needed to compete in today’s college environment and beyond.

Stories from the Store
Sisters 4 Sisters

A courageous mother fleeing her abuser with nothing but the clothes on her back and the bruises on her face. A human trafficking survivor who lost her leg due to a train accident on her journey for a better life. A determined woman wanting a second chance coming out of incarceration to prove to the world her past does not define her. A sex traffic survivor who wants nothing more than her dignity that was stripped from her at a young age. These are some of the real stories of clients we serve at WGB everyday through our Bag To Go Program.

WGB’s Bag to Go Program started in 2016 because of the emergency need of clothing that our client's were facing. Bag to Go request forms are submitted by Case Managers / Social Workers and FBI Victim Service Agents who provides information on the client’s clothing and shoe sizes and picks up the bag when it is done. A volunteer  "shops" for the client, putting together full outfits from our boutique, picking out jewelry, purses and toiletries. These bags are packed with so much love for a person they will probably never meet. Sometimes we have only a 48 hour turnaround time to prepare Bag To Go Orders, so having volunteers like Liz and Cheryl we can call on to get it done has been essential to making this program successful. Thank you!

Volunteer Drives
